Daredevil

Although it is usually fun to jump onto the couch, Travis learned how unforgiving the couch can be on Saturday... We were playing and he dove head first from the arm of the couch onto the cushions, but somehow landed on his hand wrong. We thought he had just jammed it or something at first, but he cried for a solid 15 minutes and would not move his wrist at all. Then it looked like his wrist was starting to swell so we decided to take him to the urgent care. We were babysitting some friend's kids Saturday evening, so I took him while Kati stayed and babysat. On the way there he fell asleep. When he woke up he was as happy as can be. He was still favoring his wrist, but I figured that it was probably just tender, not broken because he didn't seem to be in that much pain. After the doctor looked at it they took us in to get X-rays. In the mean time I had been asked like 5 times "EXACTLY how did this happen?" as well as "Can you spell his first and last name and give us his date of birth?". I was also commended for having the most well behaved 2 year old ever :) The doctor looked at the X-rays there and said that he had a distal radial fracture just above his wrist. They put a splint on him and said that we needed to call an orthopedic doctor to get a cast put on, and that the cast would be on for about 4 weeks. Kati had just bought a season pass to the water park near our house and was planning on putting Wes and Travis in swim lessons shortly. Looks like that may have to wait...We will see what the options are as far as getting a waterproof cast. Poor Travis will have to learn to use his left arm more over the next month. I moved the mouse on one of the computers and switched the buttons to see if that makes it a little easier for him to use.

We met a new family in our ward today who asked about Travis' arm. After we told them, the Dad pulled his 5 year old son close and said "Look at his arm. That is what happens when you jump on the couch." From the boys facial expression, it didn't appear as though he would be jumping on the couch anytime soon.

So sorry about Travis! Jayce had a sling once (he only sprained his wrist), and boy -- did he get sympathy! There's something about a toddler with a sling/cast that attracts so much attention.

Hope he feels better soon!
