Joy School

Wesly started preschool about 3 weeks ago now, almost 4. Wow, unbelievable. I wasn't so sure that I wanted to send him off just yet, but I decided Joy School would be an easier, more affordable, and fun transition.
It took me a while to get a group together, butat the last minute we had enough interest that it all fell in place. I think next year I will be able to get a big group of kids for Travis' class.
They don't learn the typical ABC's but rather I think there are 12 Joys that they study. Joy of the body, Joy of the Earth, etc...
They learn things that all the kids should learn about and can pick up reguardless of their age. At 3 years old the kids are all at different stages when it comes to the alphabet and numbers. We started working more with Wesly at these at home and he has been reading simple words for a few months now. He likes to read but as I think is pretty common, he likes to guess by the pictures. I just need to figure out how to teach him to read. www.starfall.com is such a better teacher than I am sometime. It reminds me of rules like, "when two vowels go a walking, the first one does the talking." Little things like that are so helpful, I can't always remember the WHY to the way we say things. (I could teach it better about spanish...lol)

ANYWAYS,
back to Joy School. Wesly loves it. He was SO excited to GO TO SCHOOL. He asked me the first day if the school bus was coming to get him. He was so sad that he didn't get to ride a bus (he loves to watch it in the neighborhood). But he got to go to his friend Jaden's house, and now to his friend Kayden's house and he never wants to leave. Unfortunately this has been hardest on Travis, who really wants to go with Wesly to school. Especially at friend's houses where he usually is allowed to stay and play too. I have really come to love preschool time as Nathan naps almost the entire time, and Travis and I can have one-to-one time, but lately, he likes to play by himself and I can get some work done too. Funny how I usually feel like Travis is the trouble maker, BUT with Wesly gone, he is an angel! hmmmm....

Here are some pictures that Tracy took of Wesly having fun at Jaden's house.
Play Dough fun.
Pudding Art.

Snack time is the best!

Tuesday each child brought a vegetable and they made vegetable stew together. Wesly loved it, I am going to have to make the recipe at home. They also had an obstacle course and Wesly wanted to make one at home too. Thanks Tracy and Cherise for having awesome lessons so far!

They look like they are loving the lessons! I need to do this project with Kate! That is awesome that Wesley is trying to read already! He is such a bright kid:)

Very fun!

Starfall.com is amazing. After learning letters from LeapFrog videos, Starfall is a great place for picking up sightreading, too. Even after skipping Audrey into First Grade, she is the best reader in her class--only one other girl in the class is at her level (bringing home "chapter books").

Just watch out for Travis! Brennan adopted the attitude that "anything Audrey can do, I can do" and now he reads almost as well as she does (and for a little while there he was actually better with numbers). Skipping Audrey one grade almost wasn't enough, and she was emotionally and socially precocious--I have no idea what we'll do with Bren, I don't think skipping him a full grade will challenge him academically, but two grades might be pushing our luck in terms of social and emotional development.

The other parallel, of course, is how comparatively quiet and well-behaved and self-sufficient Brennan is when Audrey is at school... those oldest children are such instigators! d^_~b

Joy school is so fun! Aaron is loving his as well. And it is funny how Cameron acts when Aaron's gone. I can't even imagine how Wesley is feeling when both his brothers are gone! Exciting and maybe a little bit borring?!?

Joy School looks like fun. I'll have to try that pudding painting with Riley, I think he'd enjoy that lots.
