For Joy School we started having classes at our house. The first day was very busy. We made homemade Applesauce. I was really worried because I had never made it before. BUT it turned out SO GOOD and tasted exactly like the applesauce I buy for Nathan from Sprouts. I need to find a deal on apples now and can some.
I let each of the kids take a turn smushing the apples. It would have never turned out so well had I not borrowed this tool from a friend in another ward. (THANKS ROBYN!!) It looks like a funnel but acts more like a collander (sp?) or even a cheese grater. Then it has a wooden stick for mushing the apples through the holes. The skin and seeds stay in the funnel.

They loved holding the bowl and funnel while they each took turns mushing.

MMMM good! The color of the day was orange...if you couldn't tell. :)
At the end of class we went outside and each chose a seed to plant in a cup. 3 chose peas and 3 chose squash.

I really thought that Travis was ready to join the class. He always wants to do what Wesly does. I was worried the kids might have a hard time paying attention. But they did great compared to Travis. I guess I won't be starting him in January....I thought with him being 3 in February that he would be fine....I will definitely wait for next August.

He decided that the dirt might taste good. hmmmm, at least he was laughing.
THE PLANTS GROWTH...
We planted the seeds on 9/25/08 and this is a picture of them on 10/03/08.

Jaden's Squash really took off. It started to grow a few days after all 3 pea plants started to sprout, and then it just went crazy. You can just barely see Felicity's plant on the lower right popping up. Wesly and Ryan must have planted their squash a little too deep. I uncovered them a little and the next day Wesly's popped up. Ryan's followed the next day and today they look like this...

Sorry if these seems like way too much info on little plants, but I am so excited that all of these plants are growing now. Wesly has been so sad looking at his cup everyday and seeing the other plants grow.
Now I won't have to send plantless cups home with sad kids. They all get to take home something they planted and grew!
