Building Up a Righteous Posterity

Saturday evening there was a church broadcast that I was very blessed to be able to watch. We didn't remember about it until right before, so we couldn't get a babysitter, so I took Nate with me and Chris stayed at home with Wesly and Travis.

The theme of the broadcast was "Building Up a Righteous Posterity." There were a lot of really good stories told, like Elder Holland telling his "Parable of the home-made Shirt," (Using a pattern in our lives, or not) or Elder Packer talked about how we can all receive revelation from God and how not all churches believe that. I (Kati) think that if we couldn't receive an answer for ourselves...that would be hard for me to grasp. He then read "The Family, A Proclamation to the World." It is a very well written document that I have considered trying to memorize many times. Then Elder Holland conducted a sort of round-table discussion with Elder Oaks, Sister Beck (RS Pres), Sister Tanner (YW Pres),and Sister Lant (Primary Pres). They addressed so many issues that families have. Families, meaning any type of family, one person or more. I will just list a few things I highlighted from the discussion:

"It's not about WHO is right, but WHAT is right"
"Children, not just bare them, but bare them knowing we will save them."
"The Family Comes First" - Scratch this on the inside of your glasses and then put on your spectacles to evaluate your activities and you will see "the family comes first."

The discussion then turned to examples and stories of some ideas we can include in our families that can bring us closer. Such as: Keeping the TV OFF during meal times, use that time to talk to each other. Family Prayer. and Family Home Evening, Sister Beck said her Dad ALWAYS had them sing "Love at Home" for the opening prayer EVERY TIME. When she asked him why he replied, "When you have learned lesson one, I will show you lesson two." She said she never knew what lesson 2 was... :)
I think it was Elder Oaks that challenged Fathers to take their role to call the Family together for prayer and make sure Family Home Evening Happens. I thought it was funny that he threw in that maybe Dad needs to ask Mom to HELP him with it, as it may be more organized that way..but at least be INVOLVED, HELP IT HAPPEN.
I really liked it when Elder Oaks said: "DO NOT criticize others for having large families." It is especially sad to see members criticizing members when we know Heavenly Father's plan. Coming from a large family I heard it a lot, as I am sure my Mother heard it even more. I already hear it, and I only have three boys. If only those criticizing could see the joy our children bring to us.
They spoke towards the end about the word "Nurture"- to help make grow. We need to keep a climate in our homes where certain things can grow. Those things being the Spirit, Faith, and Hope, etc..)

Last to speak was our Prophet, Thomas S. Monson. I'll relate that experience to you after I tell another story. :)

Kati, I have to admit that I didn't really want to go at first. I hadn't been feeling well and wasn't too keen on sitting for 2 hours but I'm so glad I went! It was excellent counsel and I hope to be able to get a recording of it. Glad you were able to go too!

It was an incredible meeting! I also received a witness that President Monson is a prophet of God. I was asked to lead the closing song...WE Thank Thee Oh God for a Prophet...and I cried through most of it. yeah..it was kind of embarrassing. But I have a strong testimony...and a knowledge of truth! Yeah!
